I also had to copy two files (ldlinux.sys and ldlinux.bss) from. One has to choose combined UEFI and MBR booting (and use DD for persistence to work). It would even better if a UEFI bootable stick wasn't downgraded by MBR booting to be an MBR boot only stick.Įdit: Rufus 2.18 on Windows XP can create an SD card or a USB stick that can boot an Apple Mac.

It would be good if there was a way to repair the stick without reformatting and flashing it again since I might have installed a lot of software to it and configured it. It seems the stick gets destroyed for UEFI booting if you once boot it using MBR.

Now this stick can only boot in Legacy mode on PCs with UEFI and on older PCs with only MBR boot. you can't even choose it during bootup with alt/option pressed since the USB stick doesn't appear. Then I tried to boot the same stick that worked on the Mac before in the Mac, but now it doesn't work. Then I booted the stick in Legacy mode (i.e. Later I tried to boot the macOS (OS X El Capitan) formatted USB stick in a PC (Lenovo ideapad100) with UEFI and that worked well. I needed to do the formatting of the USB drive as in this video on the Mac (OS X Extended (Journaled), GUID Partition Map), because a USB stick that worked to boot an old PC (Eee PC 1001HA) with RPD that didn't have UEFI, but only MBR booting, didn't work on this MacBook Pro 5,4 from mid 2009 (the USB stick formatted with SD Memory Card Formatter 5.0.1 on Windows XP on EeePC doesn't show up when booting and pressing alt/option). I don't think it's necessary to fix the booting of Raspberry Pi Desktop with the current image, because I got it to work without problems. Thank you once again and keep up the excellent work! By making this one could avoid problems with the process of shrinking the FAT partition - me, myself, I had my share of troubles while trying this on elementaryOS (gparted would crash without completing the task). If I could suggest an easier way to create a live USB with persistence for Mac, instead of shrinking the fat partition, I would suggest to start out creating two partitions, (i) one for the system (FAT) (I've used 2Gb but maybe 1,4Gb is enough if not additional software is installed) and (ii) another one for the persistence (ext4). Just regular tweeks needed to make extraordinary things work, such as right-click mouse and midia buttons (volume, brightness keys, etc.). PIXEL is such a great project and making this available for a wider public trough letting it run on an existent base of PC and Mac is a gorgeous idea.įollowing the instructions from the 2 posts from spl23, I was able to boot PIXEL into my Late 2007 Black Macbook (macbook 3,1) with persistence - tested and working fine.Įverything seems to work alright, no issues. I just would like to say thanks for every one making this possible.
